Dementia Care

Coughenour-Lancaster Special Care Center
Family Care Center

To deal with the tragedy of dementia, The Cedars offers two types of secure living:

The Coughenour-Lancaster Special Care Center, located in the HealthCare Center, provides a licensed skilled nursing facility offering 11 private rooms.

The Family Care Center allows couples to live together in apartments when one is suffering from dementia. The center is located in The Courts, the new assisted living center.

Both facilities are staffed by health care professionals specially trained in the care of dementia patients whose emotional and social needs outweigh physical needs.

And both offer the security and sense of belonging fostered by small, intimate "neighborhoods" within the centers. Each facility has its own nursing staff, comfy parlor with entertainment center, dining room and kitchen. Neighborhood residents plan their own activities and outings.

The "neighborhood" concept – grouping units around a commons area – enables more one-on-one attention, continuity of care, increased resident satisfaction, and closer relationships among staff and residents.

Welcome to Our Neighborhood

Our dementia residents live in "neighborhoods" where small groups of rooms or apartments are centered around their own social areas, dining rooms and even staff! To everyone - even families - it means deeper, more meaningful relationships among all.

Person-Centered Care

It's putting the residents and their wishes above convenience and schedules. It's giving our residents choices and control over their daily routine – deciding when and what to eat … choosing their own clothing … deciding when to participate in activities … and sleeping as late as they want.

Read more about this innovative concept.
