Giving

Funds | Other Gift Ideas | Ways to Give | How to Give

They come from all walks of life. And give in many ways. They give large and small gifts for many reasons. Yet all are united in their vision for a better life for residents at The Cedars retirement community.

They are the compassionate and the generous who have made services, equipment and facilities possible that otherwise would be unaffordable.

Such gifts have enabled The Cedars to maintain its high standards of care and service. They have made a lasting impact upon life at The Cedars.

You can give in a way that matches your circumstances, supports what you value, and addresses the needs you see.

You can make gifts to specific funds, or to any residential facility or department. Or you may give an unrestricted gift and allow The Cedars to use it where most needed.

All gifts to The Cedars — designated a 501(c)3 not-for-profit
organization — are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Funds

You may contribute to the following funds:

  • Residents' Assistance Fund
… supporting those residents who have exhausted their financial resources.

  • Residents' Assistance Fund (Restricted)
…assisting those who have depleted their funds. The restricted fund, however, operates like an endowment fund. Only the interest earned on gifts to the restricted fund is used. The principal, or original gift amount, remains intact.

  • Memorials
… a meaningful remembrance. A life lived – with all its joys, heartaches, striving and loving compassion – is a life worth remembering. A memorial gift touches other lives and is a tribute to someone you love. It also is a personal way to tell a family that you care. In consultation with The Cedars, you may designate how you want your gift to be used.

  • Lakeside Development Fund
Benches, flowers and landscaping all have been added to the gazebo area near the lake, thanks to our generous donors. Additional contributions will help keep the area attractive and appealing for the many Cedars activities in the area.

  • Wellness Center Fund
Although the Wellness Center has met its first goal, fund-raising must continue to cover unforeseen expenses and those pledges that cannot be paid due to the donors' Wellness Centerchanged circumstances. The center currently is in the design phase. See the Wellness Center, at right, then check out the floor plan (pdf). Many generous donors (pdf) helped make the Wellness Center possible.

How to Make a Gift

You must decide what to support.

It may be the HealthCare Center where a loved one received compassionate care.

It may be the Wellness Center that will help our residents maintain a high quality of life for as long as possible.

It may be the chapel ministry…dementia care…or the Residents' Assistance Fund. You can choose the need that most appeals to you as you relate to our service and ministry to elders. Or you can leave your gift free of designations and give us the privilege of using it where it is most needed.

Then it is up to you and your attorney or financial/tax adviser to determine the method of giving that best suits your personal circumstances, family needs and financial means.

Once your gift is made, you can enjoy the personal satisfaction and peace of mind that comes from making a gift that can make such a difference in the lives of so many people.

A financial safety net

Mary (not her real name) and her husband had given their lives in service to others. Now retired and living at The Cedars, their savings had been depleted and no money remained to pay for care. "I don't know what we are going to do. We have run out of money," Mary told a staff member.

The Cedars, however, was able to provide a financial safety net. The Residents' Assistance Fund, supported by generous donors, is a source of care and support for those residents who have exhausted their financial resources. For one Cedars staff member, it was a privilege to tell Mary and her husband not to worry.

Peace of mind money can't buy

They had worked hard as farmers and had planned to spend a long, relaxing retirement at The Cedars. But life doesn't always proceed as planned. Betty had to be admitted to the HealthCare Center, and John contracted cancer. John, however, had the reassurance of knowing that Betty would be cared for at the HealthCare Center, no matter what her needs, for as long as necessary. Through the Residents' Assistance Fund, The Cedars helped Betty and John face these changes and, in the process, provided the peace of mind that money just can't buy.

A new view of the world

For Joyce, standing was only a distant memory. It had been perhaps three years since she
had been relegated to her wheelchair and bed. It was a donation from The Cedars Service Guild that changed all that. The gift of a standing frame to the physical therapy room gave Joyce a whole new view of the world. For her, that gift has made all the difference.

What is The Cedars Service Guild?

Residents of The Cedars and the community come together to sponsor activities and fund-raisers to provide the "extras" that can make a difference in the lives of Cedars residents. Members offer Christmas and bake sales … operate the Gift Shop … stitch up comfy handmade quilts for HealthCare Center residents ... and much more. Proceeds help purchase items and fund programs that help The Cedars provide that incomparable care and support to its residents.

The Guild activities complement the major campaigns conducted by The Cedars Development Department that raises tax-deductible gifts to build new facilities and meet other needs of the expanding campus.

Our Donors Made

  • Lakeside gazebo ... used for a variety of events
